        II Short Story Competition "El Quijote de tu vida”


To celebrate International Book Day la Lectura on 23rd April, the UK Instituto Cervantes centres, in collaboration with the Education Office and the Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs of the Spanish Embassy, is holding the II Short Story Competition with the theme "El Quijote de tu vida".

8 - 12  years old category

1st    Prize    :      Sofia McLachlan

2nd      Prize    :        Lizzy Diggins

3rd    Prize    :       Beatrix Webb

13 - 19  years old category

1st    Prize    :  Ryan Frost

2nd    Prize :       Joseph Prince

3rd    Prize     Aysha Nasir

 

Prizes:

Prize winners of both categories will be awarded the following:

  • 1st Prize: a cheque to the value of £400 for the library of the winning school and a voucher for £150 for the winning author. In both cases, the prize money must be used for buying books or other resources related to the Spanish speaking world and Spanish language learning.
  • 2nd Prize: a selection of books, CDs and DVDs of Spanish and Latin American authors and artists.


Prize-winners will be awarded for their expression, creativity and originality and also their overall response to the question posed.


The award ceremony will be held on 25th May 2011 at 11:30 am in the Auditorium at the Instituto Cervantes (102 Eaton Square, London, SW1W 9AN). The winning short stories will be read out to the audience by their authors and will be uploaded on Instituto Cervantes’ blog.

The winners are welcome to attend the award ceremony accompanied by the family member or friend who inspired their short story. The Education Office of the Spanish Embassy in the UK will thus cover the travel expenses of the prize-winner and one guest, should they be travelling from outside of London.

Note: For security reasons, adults will be allowed admittance with a photo ID (Driver’s licence, passport, etc.). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
