April 2006 marks the 68th anniversary of César Vallejo`s death in Paris (he died on 15 April, 1938). Seen as one of Latin America`s best poets, this event will commemorate Vallejo`s later work, particularly his Poemas humanos (Human Poems), and his Spanish Civil War poetry, España, aparta de mí este cáliz (Spain, take this cup from me).The programme will consist of a recital in Spanish of selected poems by Vallejo followed by a reading of English translations, a screening of a short documentary entitled César Vallejo: Traspié entre 46 estrellas and a round table discussion on Vallejo`s work entitled Vallejo y España, with a panel consisting of a number of experts chaired by Stephen Hart.
