Prof Peter Evans will introduce the screenings of these documentaries by Luis Buñuel and José Val de Omar. Buñuel travelled to the region of Las Hurdes in Extremadura to film the documentary ''Land Without Bread'' and capture the way of life of its inhabitants. Despite the realist aims of the report, Buñuel´s fascination with the strange and out of the ordinary is evident. The three documentaries brought together under the title `Murcia:Christian and Pagan Festivities`were originally filmed in the Easter and Spring of 1934 in Lorca, Cartagena and Murcia. Conceived as documentaries, they bore witness to the traditions and folklore of rural Spain.
